Tom Cruise's linguistic slip

Tom Cruise needs to brush up on his language skills... or his geography.

The Valkyrie star reportedly made a slip of the tongue while promoting the film in Brazil.

Tom was heard saying "gracias" and "hola" to locals. Quite what the Portuguese-speaking Brazilians made of his attempts to speak Spanish is not known.

The 46-year-old Top Gun actor was in Rio de Janeiro with his family when he made the linguistic mistake, it has been reported.

And his cultural slips didn't end there

Talking about his love of Brazil, Tom said he enjoyed the tango - the traditional dance of Argentina.

But despite the mistakes, he still managed to win over the local press.

One reporter told Tom he promised his niece to get a photo with the star. Tom immediately obliged.

Tom Cruise - Complete Tit.

Although to give him a little bit of credit, and I say this very grudgingly, he is pretty good where his fans are concerned.

I know I am a complete minority here, but I still absolutely love Tom Cruise.  I think there are some actors whose private lives overshadow their talents and vice/versa.

When I watch movies where all the actors and actresses are long gone, I see only the movie before me; I see only the acting presented.  Then I can determine who had real talent versus Hollywood popularity.

I believe Tom Cruise will be one of the actors still known long after he is gone.  When all of the scandals have been hushed, I think his talent will show to generations that follow.

Whereas someone like Angelina Jolie, well, I think she has a private life that makes her acting more appealing.  In years to come, I think her films will be forgotten. (Maybe one will stand, but not many).

You make a very good point Midgie, certainly food for thought. I still don't like him, but he is good at what he does.
