Spandau in Cannes to unveil more dates

Story Spandau Ballet have announced some more dates as part of their comeback tour.

The New Romantic pioneers, who unveiled their reunion plans in London, were in Cannes to publicise the extra shows at London's O2 Arena, the Birmingham LG Arena, the Liverpool Echo arena plus concerts in Amsterdam and Brussels.

They revealed that the reunion began with two members of the band sitting in their pants drinking wine.

Drummer John Keeble said the idea of getting back together came while he was on tour with lead singer Tony Hadley.

"Two years ago I was in a dressing room with Tony and as ever, the old Spandau Ballet question came up," said Keeble.

"I looked him in the eyes as we sat there in our pants with a glass of wine, sweating profusely, and said, 'You would do it, wouldn't you?' So I made it my mission."

Hadley, 49, described Keeble as the "Henry Kissinger of pop" for the diplomatic way he brokered the comeback with the other band members - twins Gary and Martin Kemp and sax player Steve Norman - who had not spoken since an acrimonious High Court battle over royalties.

"I was wearing the Ghanaian robes of Kofi Annan," Keeble joked.

"To be honest, at that time I didn't think I could make it happen, but I thought I would give it a bit of a go.

"I gave Gary a call - we hadn't spoken since we were in court under oath - so it was a bit weird, but we used to room together."

Hadley said he felt the years roll back at the band's first rehearsal.

"Johnny Keeble counted four and we all steamed in," he said.

"I think it was Cut A Long Story Short, and it was rocking. If anything, I think it sounds better now than it did 20 years ago."
