Premier League - Shinawatra gets two years in prisonFormer Manchester City owner and current honorary president Thaksin Shinawatra has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Thai Supreme Court after being found guilty of corruption during his time as Thailand's Prime Minister.
Shinawatra, exiled in Britain, has been embroiled in a long-standing dispute with the authorities in his homeland since he was ousted from power in 2006.
His wife, Pojaman, had previously been found guilty and sentenced in absentia to three years in prison.
The dispute had meant that, while he ran the Eastlands club, Shinawatra's assets in Thailand were frozen.
He initially returned to Thailand in February 2008 to fight the charges but went back to England soon afterwards and sold City to the Abu Dhabi United Group just before the August 31 transfer deadline.
Shinawatra's role as honorary president does not involve any administrative duties
