The widower of reality TV star Jade Goody appeared at Redbridge Magistrates' Court in Ilford and was remanded until September 21.
Tweed, 22, from Chigwell in Essex, was arrested on Friday after a complaint from a young woman. Another man in his 20s has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Officers investigating the rape allegation also arrested a third man aged 25 on Friday night. The woman made the allegation after apparently meeting the men at a central London club on Thursday night. The alleged sex attack took place at a residential address in Redbridge.
Mark Thomas, Tweed's spokesman, declined to comment on the arrest but confirmed that a lawyer had been hired to represent his client.
Tweed has spoken widely about how he has struggled to come to terms with Goody's death and admitted turning to alcohol to ease the pain.

I wonder if he'll try to blame this on the aftermath of Jade Goody's death
