Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs is being lined up to join the cast of Coronation Street.
The actor, who has been in the headlines recently over the Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand prank call scandal, is in talks to appear in the ITV soap next year.
The Daily Mirror reports that Sachs will play the brother of busy-body Norris Cole, who works alongside Rita in The Kabin.
A Coronation Street spokesperson said: "We first started working on a possible character for Andrew Sachs six months ago after learning that he was interested in joining the show.
“This was brought to our attention by Malcolm Hebden who plays Norris Cole. We have been in discussions with Andrew about the proposed storyline which would be seen on screen some time next year."
Andrew Sachs recently revived the Fawlty Towers character Manuel at a birthday celebration for Prince Charles. His most recent high-profile TV acting role was playing a paedophile in The Bill.
Do you think Andrew Sachs will be a good addition to the Corrie cast? Let us know what you think...

I must admit, knowing this now really makes me think that the whole Ross/Brand incident was all a huge publicity stunt and that they were probably all paid a handsome sum of Our money from it.

Preview this week . . .
Spoiler:
Coronation Street
Ken's affair is on the verge of being exposed as two more residents find out about his secret fling.
The week begins with Ken still reeling from Martha's rejection after she found out he was married and he vows to see her and set things right. However, he's horrified when he finds that her barge is no longer at the canal and he gets an even bigger shock when Deirdre comes along and he has to explain what he is doing there.
Although he manages to wriggle out of that one, there is trouble later when he finally tracks Martha down at a local theatre and Audrey sees him having a heart-to-heart with the actress.
Audrey confronts him and threatens to tell Deirdre, but Ken tells her it's none of her business. However, when Audrey later lets slip to Peter about his father's affair, it looks like this secret is finally about to come out...
Elsewhere, Darryl is less than thrilled when his mother Teresa literally rolls back into Weatherfield - in a drunken state!
She says she's back to wish him a happy birthday but unfortunately for her she's missed his actual birthday and it's clear she has an ulterior motive.
Before long she's having a slanging match in Roy's Rolls and demanding money from her long-suffering son in the kebab shop.
When Dev turns up to discover she's trashed the shop, he threatens to call the police and Darryl realises that he must work out a way to persuade his mum to leave again - this time for good.
Also this week, Tyrone is humiliated by Kevin and it looks like love could be in the air for Jack.

Coming Soon . . .
Spoiler:
Coronation Street
Take our advice and make sure you have eaten your tea ahead of Monday's Coronation Street, otherwise the sight of a naked Dev may be enough to put you off your meat and two veg.
Dev's indecent exposure comes as angry girlfriend Tara finally takes her revenge after finding out he cheated on her with her friend Lisa.
As the locals gather for Tara to unveil a new artwork entitled Urban Decay - noone is aware that she is about to unveil a massive naked photograph of her cheating boyfriend.
Blissfully unaware of the humiliation that awaits, Dev proposes to Tara ahead of the unveiling - will his romantic gesture be enough to win her forgiveness?
Meanwhile, a familiar face joins the cast as Andrew Sachs pops into Weatherfield as Norris's long-lost brother Ramsay - and Norris is anything but pleased to see him.
The pair come face-to-face for the first time since their mother's funeral 25 years ago and Norris is still holding a grudge against his long-lost sibling.
While Rita, Emily and even Blanche are quick to welcome Ramsay to the street, it's clear that Norris will take some winning over. Will Ramsay be able to patch things up with his awkward brother?
Also this week, Jason brings an unwelcome visitor to No.11 and Maria is shocked to hear what Fiz has been up to.
I don't normally watch the soaps coz they do my fruit in. Mr Dimps went out last night so I sat slobbing I saw Maria an thought OMG Corry get her a baby belly
